Healing High Blood PressureHealing Incurable High Blood Pressure Almost daily, I get email from clients who have in the past tried everything possible to treat their 220/150 hypertension. They have taken both traditional and herbal medications and are on every supplement known to man. To make things worse, they inform me that pretty much everyone in their family (since Christopher Columbus) has suffered from incurable hypertension. Their conclusion is that this must be genetic. The question is in essence... “ Can your exercises possible help in my situation”. I'm sure many of you are thinking the same even if you didn't contact me. So I decided to explain this. There is of course no denying it that high blood pressure is partly genetic caused. Bad diet and other life style factors also play contributing role in raising blood pressure. That is however only a tiny part of the problem. Stress, anxiety and other emotional tension play much bigger part in creating hypertension. In the modern world we live in, we're faced with stimulation almost 24 hours a day. The 16-18 hours we're awake, there is something acting on us all the time. This could be external things (like nagging boss) or internal thing (like money worries) but either way, our body is not made to deal with such an overload of stimulation. Since we're so used to all this pressure, we are not always aware of how overwhelming this non stop pressure really is. To explain this a little better, let me take an example of the old world and the new world. When growing up as a young boy, we lived in the city but had a small farm around two hours drive out. I loved the quiet summer in the countryside. And more than anything else, the horses. There were not many cars around, only a few tractors. And we could ride forever without crossing a big road. We trained many young horses. We began in the summer time when they turned four. Since we took it slowly, they most often were very calm and relaxed. It wasn't till two to three years later – in the winter time - we brought them into the stable area in the city. Here comes the interesting part... You couldn't guess how terrified these calm, young horses were when brought into the intensity of the city. Even the relaxed stable area was overwhelming. Not to mention outside the area where you had fast cars, screaming people and huge buildings. Some horses ran off. Others froze. We had to come up with a method to help them get over this. Rule number one was to never take them out alone. We always brought older horses with us who were used to the city and therefore stayed relaxed and calm. This calmness transferred to the youngsters. But that was only the first step. More importantly... After we had fed the hey in the evening and everything was quiet – we spent hours in the stall with the youngsters brushing and combing them. Success was when the youngster was so happy that he stopped eating, closed his eyes and enjoyed the brushing. Little by little the city static didn't seem to affect the youngster in the same way. By giving him Focused Break (combing and brushing), his nervous system got enough rest for him to deal with the difficult tasks and intensity throughout the day. The tension in their back muscles relaxed and we could feel them enjoy themselves. This is much easier nowadays. The horses are more used to cars and traffic even in the countryside. But they are still happy to get their combing in the evening. And I think I get as much out of it as they do. We can learn from these young horses. Like them, we need to deal with difficult tasks and difficult people all day long. This build up tension in your nerve system and keeps it tense throughout the day. Like that wasn't enough. When we finally have quiet moment, our brain kicks in with worries or resentment thoughts. Whether it's unwinding or on-winding, our blood pressure may be worse than ever at these quiet moments. Till the very last minutes before finally falling into sleep, our mind is still spinning. Many of us may have more tendency towards hypertension than others. Our diet can also raise our blood pressure temporarily. But nothing flairs up our blood pressure as our own mind and emotions. And nothing – no matter how irritating something may be in your life – constantly bugs us, all day long, like our own mind. Studies have shown that quiet meditation can be helpful to lower blood pressure. The problem is that very few people have the discipline to shut off their mind for 30-60 minutes every single day. Many people are actually more tense after meditation than before it. The Focused Break exercises in my program do not require any discipline. Just listen to and follow the directions on the audio. The feeling from couple of the exercises is a lot like the relaxed quiet feeling in the stable when we are combing the horses. The first exercise is however more like an active training technique that will actually train your blood pressure down (although it requires no workout). Anybody can follow and master these exercises the very first time you do them. And since they are so simple, you'll benefit from them within only a few days. The most enjoyable part is to get a little break from the world. A little time where there are no worries and nothing that pressures you. So enjoy.
